Steffen Herzberger (born September 21, 1969 in Bad Dürkheim ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Steffen Herzberger began his adult playing career at the age of 18 at FK Pirmasens . In 1990 he moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the 2. Bundesliga. In his debut against 1. FC Saarbrücken , he received the red card after 76 minutes . After his subsequent suspension, he became a regular player. Because of its variability, it was considered an important part of the team. He was often called up in defensive midfield and defense. For the 1993/94 season he moved to the Stuttgarter Kickers . However, he only played one year in Stuttgart . After 29 games and two goals, he moved to Eintracht Trier in the regional league. There he stayed for two seasons. In the summer of 1996 the defensive player returned to 1. FSV Mainz 05. From 1990 to 2000 he played a total of over 200 competitive games for the 05er.

From 2002 Herzberger played for TuRU Düsseldorf and rose with the club in 2004 in the Oberliga Nordrhein . In 2005 he joined the Southwest Upper Division Wormatia Worms for 13 games . Then he gave a short guest appearance at TSV Schott Mainz .

After his playing career, he started his own business with two clothing stores in Mainz. He was active in the traditional team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern , plays in the traditional Uwe-Seeler team and in the old men of 1817 Mainz .

From the 2019/20 season, Herzberger will be the coach of the Mainz district division TSG 1892 Hechtsheim .
