Steffen Staab

Steffen Staab (* 1970 ) is a German computer scientist and has been Professor of Databases and Information Systems at the University of Koblenz-Landau at the Institute for Computer Science and at the Institute for Web Science and Technologies - WeST , which he founded in 2009.

In addition to his commitment to research and teaching, Steffen Staab is Editor-in-Chief at the Journal of Web Semantics , an editorial member of various scientific journals and active in the design of various conference series such as the International Semantic Web Conference - ISWC , the World Wide Web Conference or the International Conference in Web Science of the Web Science Trust .

Research priorities

Steffen Staab's main research areas are web science , semantic web , querying & reasoning, ontology (computer science) , ontologies in software modeling, semantic information retrieval , semantic multimedia, semantic P2P and organization of complex dynamic systems.

Awards

Steffen Staab received various awards for his scientific work, including first place in the Billion Triple Challenge of the ISWC-2008 with "Semaplorer", the Ted Nelson newcomer Award of ACM Hypertext 2008, and first place in the doIT Software Award 2004 for Bibster and the ECAI 1998 Best Paper Award. In 2018 Staab was awarded the Academy Prize of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
