Stegware (also StEG-Ware ) were items sold in German shops in the post-war period 1948/49, which were originally intended for the equipment of American troops. On the basis of two contracts for the takeover of American military goods after the currency reform , they were sold by the State Registering Society for Public Goods (StEG) through the retail trade at moderate prices. Essentially, these were everyday objects and clothing, but also vehicles.
Until the early 1980s, US and Bundeswehr material was still sold in so-called Steg shops , for example in several branches in Berlin and other major cities. In addition to used personal equipment of the soldiers such as parkas , other uniform parts as well as food and "camping" items (camp beds), blue jeans were offered.
For example, part of the proceeds from the sale of the fabric was intended to benefit the Fulbright program , which aimed to promote understanding between peoples and cultures after the world war with student exchanges.
