Crate , or, depending on the area, also stairs , refers to a box-shaped packaging made of wood, plastic or cardboard that does not completely envelop the packaged goods and has stacking aids. Crates are mainly used to store and transport fruit, vegetables or fish.

With wooden crates, triangular strips in the corners form the load-bearing elements for stacking. Plastic versions are also used as folding crates with movable connections between walls and floor.
