Location of Stein in Bavaria

Stein is the southernmost district of the city of Geretsried in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district , Bavaria with approx. 2500 inhabitants.

Stein is not an officially named part of the municipality of Geretsried and is attributed to the main town of Geretsried.

history

During the Second World War there was a branch of the Dachau concentration camp in the area called "Lager DSC Königsdorf", "Barackenstadt DSC Geretsried" or "Lager Stein", where concentration camp prisoners and forced laborers for the Geretsried armaments factories were housed. Until 1955 there were graves of seven killed concentration camp prisoners at the entrance to the town on Richard-Wagner-Straße, who were later reburied in the Dachau forest cemetery. Later there were temporary residences in Stein for repatriates from the former Eastern Bloc.

Infrastructure and social issues

In the district today there is a supermarket, a pharmacy, a bank, a kiosk with a post office, a restaurant, a pizzeria, several doctors and dentists and other facilities to meet the needs of its residents. The district is served by the MVV bus routes 310, 370 and 378. The main access to Stein is via the B11 - Geretsried Süd entrance.

Once a week, the Geretsried Wolfratshausen e. V. Food to needy people and large families. The Samovar network offers homework help and language courses for repatriates in an integrative meeting place.

There is also the Ein Stein youth club, which was founded in 2003 and is located in the center of Stein.
