Waltraut Kovacic is the chairwoman.

context

After the efforts to win Gunter Demnig , the initiator of the Stolpersteine , for a Viennese project failed, independent initiatives to lay stones of remembrance or stones of remembrance were established in five Viennese districts . The term stumbling blocks has so far been rejected unanimously in Vienna. Demnig sees the stones of memory on the one hand as plagiarism, on the other hand as a falsification of the original idea, since the Vienna memorial stones are made by machine and not by hand.

Club goals

The Stones of Remembrance Association in Liesing for the victims of the Holocaust and National Socialist terror was founded in September 2013 together with the Local Agenda 21 Plus in Liesing . The aim of the association is to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and the National Socialist terror. The memory should become visible in those places in Liesing where the people who were expelled, deported or murdered by the National Socialists lived . The stones of remembrance are to be laid in front of the houses from which these people were driven. The anchoring of the project in the population through sponsorships, donations and active participation is of central importance for the association. “In this way we are writing history from below.” The memorial stones are among the decentralized memorials for the victims of National Socialism in Vienna-Liesing . So far, 55 memorial stones have been laid and 4 memorial plaques have been installed to commemorate 233 people murdered by the Nazi regime (93 names on stones and individual plaques, 140 names on plaques for the victims of euthanasia) and a series of commemorative events have been organized.
