The Steinel Vertrieb GmbH is an internationally operating electronics -Unternehmen headquartered in Herzebrock , North Rhine-Westphalia .

General

Steinel Vertrieb GmbH produces products in the fields of building technology, industrial components and heating technology at five European locations. The company is best known for its voltage testers , outdoor lanterns with motion detectors , hot glue guns and hot air guns .

history

In 1957, Heinrich Wolfgang Steinel began manufacturing electrical heating resistors while studying electrical engineering . After completing his studies in 1959, he devoted himself entirely to his small business, which produces heating elements for a variety of electrical devices, such as hoods , coffee machines and egg cookers . The company was regarded as one of the leading companies in the development and use of ceramics in heating resistors and expanded rapidly, so that in 1978 the head office was relocated to Herzebrock-Clarholz. The development of the two-pole voltage tester turned out to be an important and successful step for the company, as the high sales of these devices continuously reduce dependence on the shrinking market for heating resistors.

The company has also been manufacturing hot glue guns since 1980 and from 1983 this range of thermal tools was rounded off by hot air blowers.

In 1987 Steinel began developing sensor-controlled outdoor lights. The infrared sensors used are a waste product of the Siemens armaments division and were originally intended to be used for a target acquisition and location system in the Leopard 2 main battle tank . After a further development by Steinel, these sensors are now able to record human movements and in 1989 Steinel began producing the lights, which are now used in many places.

After German reunification , Steinel took over the former Robotron plant in Mölkau near Leipzig , where, among other things, the plastics are mixed for personal use. Shortly thereafter, further branches were established in Romania , the Czech Republic and Switzerland .

In the course of focusing on the core competencies of thermal tools and sensor technology, the company parted with the production of voltage testers in 2003. At the same time, research in the field of motion detectors is being intensified and new types of high-frequency sensors are used, which enable the manufacture of sensitive presence detectors for interior lighting and intrusion alarm systems.

In December 2019, the owner Ingo Steinel sold 75% of the company shares to the private equity company Adcuram Group AG (Munich) as a succession plan, but continues to run the business.
