Steinhaug

The Steinhaug desert is in the district of Henfstädt in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

history

Steinhaug was mentioned in a document as Steinhoug bey Henfstädt as early as 890 . The desert is in the neighborhood of the ruin "Steinerne Kirche" near the Ottilien spring and not far from the village of Henfstädt .

After 1300 many villages fell desolate, e. B. as a result of devastating epidemics. The church was left standing from some of the deserted areas and continued to be used as field chapels . In the district of the mother church in Leutersdorf these were z. B. the "Stone Church" near Themar (Steinhaug desert).
