Gamelands stone circle

The Gamelands stone circle (also called by Orton or Raisbeck) lies east of the Knott Lane railway line, on a plateau between Orton and Raisbeck in the east of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria , England .

Gamelands stone circle

The stone circle southwest of Knott Hill is said to date from the Neolithic . It consists of 43 boulders of local pink granite under one meter high, with the exception of a limestone block to the south. The oval circle measures about 42.0 by 35.0 meters and was located within an earth wall. Some stones were buried or blasted in 1862 when the site was being cultivated and are missing in the southern arch. It is possible that there was a central stone chest.

Nearby is the Gunnerkeld stone circle .
