Harkmark Stone Circle

The Harkmark Stone Circle is the southernmost megalithic monument in Norway . He stands at the hamlet Tregdeveien Harkmark, east of Mandal in Fylke Agder . The stone circle is located a few meters from the road on the edge of the parking lot of the old church of Harkmark on a 0.5 m high round hill with a diameter of about 6.0 meters.

It consists of a ring of six menhirs and a stone in the center of the circle. The center stone, inclined slightly to one side, is about 1.6 meters high, 30 cm wide and 20 cm thick. The top is wider than the base and it looks like the stone has a small “head” or “nose”. The six stones in the circle are 1.15 to 1.25 meters high, 50 to 80 cm wide and 20 to 50 cm thick. The distance between the stones is about 3.0 meters. All stones were temporarily removed from the circle and used in local fences. In the 1950s they were returned to their original position.

A building stone stands about 10.0 meters from the stone circle just a few centimeters from the wall next to an outbuilding of the church. It is about 1.35 cm high, 35 cm wide and 20 cm thick.

Nearby are the rune stone from Hogganvik and the building stones Einars Mål and Rösesteinen.
