Rows of stones at Refsnæs

The rows of stones at Refsnæs ( Danish Stenrækkerne ved Refsnæs ) are exactly north of Herregården by Refsnæs in the eastern Himmerland in Denmark . A little further north is Gudumlund, a name rich in associations (see Gudme ).

They consist of two parallel north-west-south-east oriented 89.5 m long rows of stones , with 49 stones in each row, and one slightly higher stone on each of the two narrow sides. Few stones were in situ . There is no evidence that could date the facility. The row of stones in nearby Buderupholm Rold Skov and Refsnæs have something in common. Both stand in swampy terrain, a former lake that later silted up. This at least suggests that they come from the time of the turn of the ages ( Iron Age ).

The Aalborg Museum and the National Museum excavated two monuments between 1955 and 1960. Next to the rows of stones is a stone circle about eight meters in diameter, in which there were two piles of stones and some shards, but they were so atypical that no dating was possible here either.
