Steinunn Valdís Óskarsdóttir

Steinunn Valdís Óskarsdóttir (born April 7, 1965 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician of the Social Democratic Alliance and former mayor of Reykjavík.

Life

Steinunn Valdís Óskarsdóttir studied history ( Bachelor 1992) and public administration at the University of Iceland . Among other things, she worked for the Association of Icelandic Women's Organizations Kvenfélagasamband Íslands . From 1994 to 2007 she was a member of the city council of the Icelandic capital Reykjavík . She was Mayor of Reykjavík from 2004 to 2006 . From 2007 until her resignation in 2010, she was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík-Nord . Since 2009 Steinunn has been Vice-President of Parliament, Chairwoman of the Main Committee and a member of the Trade Committee and the Committee on Transport and Communication. She was also a member of the Icelandic delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . From 2007 to 2010 she was Deputy Group Leader of the Social Democrats.

As of 2020, she is a member of the Nordic Committee of Senior Officials for Gender Equality (EK-JÄM) of the Nordic Council .
