Stephan Weyer-Menkhoff

Stephan Weyer-Menkhoff (born October 27, 1953 in Berlin ) is a German Protestant theologian . He is Professor of Practical Theology at the University of Mainz with a focus on aesthetics.

Life

Weyer-Menkhoff studied Protestant theology in Göttingen . From 1980 to 1985 he was a teacher in Lower Saxony, 1985–1989 pastor in Bevern ( Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover ). In 1987 he received his doctorate in practical theology in Göttingen. 1989–1994 he was head of studies at the Theological Study Seminar of the VELKD Pullach, 1994–1997 head of the religious education department in Bremerhaven. In 1997 he completed his habilitation in Göttingen and has been a professor in Mainz since the same year.

Weyer-Menkhoff is married, has four children and lives in Bacharach .

Research topics

Weyer-Menkhoff works on gestalt education, aesthetics, space and ritual. Among other things, he is the spokesman for the DFG Graduate School Space and Ritual, Church Building and Church Art. Weyer-Menkhoff conducts research projects on ritual, in this area he is among other things co-editor of a manual, space, didactics, educational theory, and church building.
