Stephen C. Spiteri

Stephen C. Spiteri (born September 15, 1963 ) is a Maltese historian, author and publicist. The focus of his work lies in the field of military architecture and the military history of Malta.

Career

After attending St. Aloysius College in Birkirkara , Spiteri studied at the University of Malta . Since completing his studies Spiteri has been active in the field of monument preservation . He was acting curator of the armory of the Grand Master's Palace in Valletta and for ten years inspector of fortifications (Superintendent of Fortifications). He is currently the Research Coordinator in the Restoration Unit of the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Malta.

Spiteri wrote a number of publications on military organization, equipment and armament of the Order of St. John and military fortifications in Malta. He is co-founder of the Sacra Milita Foundation for the study of Hospitaller Military and Naval History to research the military and naval history of the Order of St. John and the Fortress Explorer Society . He also acts as the editor of the online journal Arx - International Journal of Military Architecture and Fortification , which deals with questions of fortress construction and military architecture.
