Stephen Joseph Theater
The Stephen Joseph Theater is a theater in Scarborough , England known for its unusual stage. The special thing about it is that the audience doesn't sit in front of the stage, but around them. It is also called the Theater in the Round .
Stephen Joseph , after whom the theater is named, came to Scarborough from the USA in 1955 and brought the Theater in the Round there. In this theater he had plays by as yet unknown authors performed. One of the authors was Alan Ayckbourn . After premiering in Scarborough, some of his plays were also performed in major theaters in London and on Broadway .
