Stephen Parry (born October 31, 1960 in Burnie , Tasmania ) is an Australian politician .

Life

His father was born in the UK and immigrated to Australia in 1951. He attended Stella Maris Primary School and then Marist Regional College. At 16 he became a police officer in Tasmania. After ten years as a detective, he switched jobs in 1986 and was employed by Vincent Funeral Services. He and his wife Allison bought a company in 1994 that has stores in Burnie, Devonport and Latrobe.

Career

Parry was Director of the Braddon Business Center from 1999 to 2005. He was President of the Burnie Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 2000 to 2004. Since 1980 Parry has been a member of the Liberal Party of Australia . On October 9, 2004, he was elected to the Tasmanian Senate. He was re-elected in 2010 and 2016. He was President of Parliament from July 7, 2014 to May 9, 2016 and from August 30, 2016 to November 13, 2017. He resigned on November 2, 2017.
