Evangelina "Eva" Macaraeg Macapagal, MD (born November 1, 1915 as Evangelina de la Cruz Macaraeg in Binalonan , Pangasinan , Philippines ; † May 16, 1999 in Manila , Philippines) was the second wife of Diosdado Macapagal , the ninth President of the Philippines . Thus she was the ninth First Lady of the Philippines (December 30, 1961 to December 30, 1965) and mother of the fourteenth President, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Diosdado Macapagal junior.

Life

Macapagal was a doctor of medicine . During her tenure, she was portrayed in the media as a simple and gracefully elegant first lady. She founded many educational and health centers. She campaigned for high quality films and TV shows.

Macapagal was known for wearing the national costume on many occasions.
