Steprath Mill

Steprath Mill

The Steprather Mühle is a tower windmill on the left Lower Rhine and the landmark of Geldern - Walbeck . It is the oldest fully functional windmill in Germany and was the most important commercial enterprise in the municipality for centuries.

The mill was built around 1450 and from 1647 belonged to the Steprath family . This is how the mill got its current name. In 1953 the mill was stopped until a development association was founded and the building was renovated. Today the mill is operational again; the friends' association sells bread at its own café.
