Stern (Eisenach)
The former Volkshaus Stern is a listed ballroom in downtown Eisenach in Thuringia with the address Kasseler Straße 1.

The Eisenach Katharinenkloster was located at the location of the Stern until the 16th century . An inn “Stern” has been handed down to the site since 1802.
The Volkshaus with ballroom was built in 1906 at the intersection of Katharinenstrasse / Kasseler Strasse / Ehrensteig. The hall was designed in Art Nouveau style with Art Deco elements; the paintings have been preserved to this day.
Until the end of the 1980s, the building was used as a restaurant and for events, including the Kommersch evenings for the Eisenach summer win . In 1990 it became the property of the Treuhand , which rented it to a furniture store from 1991 to 1994, which was not conducive to the building fabric. It was later sold to a discotheque operator and was last used in 2009 for a concert event.
In its ruinous condition, the ensemble of buildings last represented an urban development deficiency. In 2016, the city of Eisenach exercised a right of first refusal and acquired the building. In the summer of 2019, steps began to secure the listed ballroom. The unprotected development on Kasseler Straße was demolished in August 2019; the area around the ballroom is to be built with a residential complex. The work, in which the roof of the hall was re-covered and the facade secured, was accompanied by an archaeological investigation.
