Denis Gilles Dupéré (born June 6, 1948 in Jonquière , Québec ; † April 14, 2019 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played 437 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Washington Capitals , St Louis Blues , Kansas City Scouts and Colorado Rockies played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . In 1975 Dupéré took part in the NHL All-Star Game as a member of the Washington Capitals .
Career
Dupéré, whose cousin Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon was a professional wrestler , first spent part of his junior years in his birthplace Jonquière in the province of Quebec . With the team of the Marquis , for which he was active between 1964 and 1967, he took part in the prestigious Memorial Cup in 1966 . For the season 1967/68 the striker finally moved to the Ontario Hockey Association , where he spent the season with the Kitchener Rangers . He had already played four games there last year.
Although he came there in 73 missions on 68 scorer points , he subsequently did not find a permanent position in the professional field, so he was initially active for the Canadian ice hockey association Hockey Canada and the Ottawa Nationals , which were based in the amateur field of the Ontario Hockey Association . It was not until the 1969/70 season that the Canadian found a place in the professional squad with the Omaha Knights from the Central Hockey League , after he had previously been committed by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League and was used by them there. At the end of the season, he led the Knights together with Syl Apps junior and Mike Robitaille to win the Adams Cup , the championship trophy of the CHL. He was then transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs in May 1970 , with which the Rangers and Maple Leafs completed a two-month earlier transfer to Tim Horton .
In the service of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dupéré initially found himself in the CHL, where he played for the Tulsa Oilers . In the course of the 1970/71 season , however, the winger made it into the NHL squad of Toronto. With his skills in the numbered game and face- offs , he subsequently earned a regular place, which he kept until the end of the 1973/74 season . In the course of the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft , the newly formed Washington Capitals Dupérés secured services. For the extremely weak newcomer to the league, the offensive player scored 20 goals and a total of 35 points in 53 appearances, making him the second best scorer of the team - although he was transferred to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Garnet Bailey and Stan Gilbertson in February 1975 . He also represented the team in the NHL All-Star Game .
For St. Louis, Dupéré played only 22 games by the end of the season, as he was involved again in a transfer business in June 1975. Together with Craig Patrick and an undisclosed amount of money, he moved in exchange for Lynn Powis and a second-round right to vote in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft to the Kansas City Scouts . After a season with the team in Kansas City , Missouri , the attacker moved the franchise to Denver , Colorado , where he went on the ice for the Colorado Rockies between 1976 and 1978 . He also came to sporadic missions during his time with the Rockies in the American Hockey League with the Rhode Island Reds , Philadelphia Firebirds and Hampton Gulls . After the end of the 1977/78 season , Dupéré announced the end of his active career after eight years and 437 appearances in the NHL after the new management of the Colorado Rockies did not want to present him a contract that was only valid for the NHL.
The 30-year-old then paused only a year before he sporadically ran up in the 1979/80 season with the amateur team of the Nelson Maple Leafs in the Western International Hockey League . He was most recently in the 1980/81 season at the French club of patineurs lyonnais Club in the National A active. Dupéré died in April 2019 at the age of 70 in his birthplace.
