The Star of the People's Republic of Romania was an order of the People's Republic of Romania from 1948 to 1966.

First model: from 1948 to 1964

The award was established on January 12, 1948 by Decree No. 40 P-RPR, published on January 13, 1948 in Monitorul Oficial No. 10.

The order had a general character. It could be awarded to civil and military persons, both Romanians and foreigners, as a reward for political, cultural, social or scientific commitment and for the realization of freedom, democracy and the building of the Romanian People's Republic. The award took place at the instigation of the State Council of the People's Republic.

The medal was awarded in five classes.

  1. Class, medal in gold, worn on the left breast
  2. Class, medal in silver, worn on the left breast
  3. Class, medal in gold on the ribbon, worn on the right breast
  4. Class, medal in silver on the ribbon, worn on the right breast
  5. Class, medal in bronze on the ribbon, worn on the right breast

The medal, which varies in size depending on how it is worn, is a five-pointed, dark blue bordered, carmine-red star with smooth rays in the corners. The obverse medallion of the 1st and 2nd class bears the inscription 30 Decembrie 1947 in a wreath of bay leaves , the date of the abdication of King Mihai I , the medallion of the 3rd to 5th class the monogram RPR , the reverse medallion of these classes the inscription December 30, 1947 .

The ribbon is solid red, watered and 22 mm wide. It is worn on the pentagonal clasp based on the Soviet model.

The interim clasp, which was worn with the uniform, shows a star in the color of the respective class and, depending on the class, 4 mm wide marginal strips in the first or second class. The first class of this model was made in solid gold in one copy.

The awards given were provided with award numbers.

Second model: from 1964 to 1966

By Decree 507 CS, published October 10, 1964 by B. Of. No. 13, there was a model change. From this point on, the appearance of the medal changed completely. The difference between the respective classes is indicated by the color of the star, the medallion and the imprints of similibrillants:

  1. Class: the medal is a five-pointed silver-gold-plated star with five broad rays at the tips. The middle beam is filled with similibrillants. The medallion is surrounded by a laurel wreath tied at the bottom with fruits. The ring of the medallion is also set with similibrillants. The medallion is enameled carmine red and, like all classes, is covered with the gold-plated coat of arms of the People's Republic of Romania.
  2. Class: the appearance of the medal is the same as that of the 1st class, but the central ray of the beam is not covered with stones.
  3. Class: the medal is the same as that of the 2nd class, but is the state coat of arms in the medallion in silver.
  4. Class, the medal in silver, the laurel wreath patinated. The edge around the medallion is smooth and not set with stones. The medallion is enameled blue.
  5. Great, the medal is entirely in silver with the exception of the state coat of arms, the medallion is enamelled in transparent orange.

There is a horizontal needle system with a safety lock on the lapel. The awards are made of silver. The interim clasps correspond to the first model.

The following model

On April 13, 1966, by Decree No. 271 of the State Council, the name was changed to Stern of the Socialist Republic of Romania . Due to the short loan period of this model, all classes are very rare.
