The eponymous brewery was founded in 1822 when the Leipzig merchant Maximillian Speck acquired the Lützschena manor and the manorial brewery. After the now ennobled Speck von Sternburg brought the master brewer from the previously leased St. Veit Abbey to Lützschena on his return from a trip to Bavaria in 1829, brewing and selling beer under the Sternburg brand began there .

After the closure of the Lützschenaer brewery, the Reudnitzer brewery has been running the Sternburg brand since 1992 .

In the same year "Sternburg Export " and "Sternburg Pilsener " were reintroduced in the low-price segment. In 1997 the “Sternburg Schwarzbier ” variety was introduced and “Sternburg Export” received the CMA seal of approval , “Sternburg Pilsener” a year later and “Sternburg Schwarzbier” received the seal of approval in 1999.

The “Sternburg Radler ” variety was introduced in 2002 , “Sternburg Diesel” followed in 2003 and “Sternburg Doppelkaramel” in 2004. In 2005, the “Sternburg Hefeweizen” variety followed.

Since January 1st, 2006 the brand has been part of the Radeberger Gruppe KG. The last new launch in 2008 was the “Sternburg Urtyp”.

magazine
There is a separate fan magazine for the Sternburg beer brand. The Sterni appears regularly as an eMagazine on the Sternburg website. It was developed in 2006 by the Leipzig agency 4iMEDIA and is still in production today. The content is stories from fans of the brand and bands who have written songs about Sternburg. Readers can also take part in polls that are about music or their favorite type of beer.
Promotion
In the run-up to the election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 2011 , Sternburg attracted attention through a guerrilla marketing campaign in which advertising posters for the beer with campaign- typical slogans were hung between real election posters of political parties .
