Star Path

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Star Way is a synonym for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela ( Way of St. James ).

Emergence

According to medieval ideas, the stars of the Milky Way represent the path of souls. Their light is the compass that shows the path to paradise , which was once thought to be at the end of the earth.

On a roof relief of the Aachener Karlsschreins from 1215 it is shown how James the Elder shows Charlemagne in a dream the way of the stars and prophesies that he will undertake a campaign to Galicia . This representation refers to the legendary "Historia Karoli Magni et Rotholandi", also known as Pseudo-Turpin :

“You have seen the starry road in the sky
and that means
that you
will march to Galicia at the head of a mighty army ,
and that like you
all peoples will make a pilgrimage there
until the end of time.
I will stand by your side
and
obtain paradise for you from God as a reward for all your efforts .
Your name will
not be erased in the minds of the peoples
as long as the world exists. "

Because of the content, the German St. Jakobus Society has given its member magazine, which has been published since 1988, the name Sternenweg .
