St. Margarethen observatory

The St. Margarethen observatory is a public observatory and meteorological observation station in Binningen near Basel .

The observatory is located on the Bruderholz above the Basel artificial ice rink. It was opened in 1929 as the successor to the Bernoullianum observatory and belonged to the University of Basel until 2007 . After the Astronomical Institute was dissolved at the end of 2007, the Astronomical Association of Basel continues to operate the observatory.

The Basel climate series, which has been recorded continuously since 1755, is also measured at the location.

The observatory also has measuring stations for the NADAM ( gamma radiation ), NABEL ( air pollutants ) and Swiss Seismological Service networks .
