In medicine, the term “stem rotation ” is used to describe the rotation of a stalked lump or tumor around its own axis, with the blood vessels running in the “stem” (i.e. the connection to the organ of origin) being constricted in such a way that the blood supply is interrupted .

Rotation of the stalk occurs, for example, as a complication in ovaries that are enlarged by tumors (usually benign cysts ).
