The pin-riveting machine , Stinima for short , is a machine tool . The Stinima process for machine riveting of reed plates was developed in 1928 by the Klingenthal machine builder Rudolf Steudemann especially for harmonica construction . It was not used extensively until the end of World War II , probably due to acceptance problems; Then it was rediscovered in the course of rationalization measures and implemented on large presses . During this time almost every harmonica was riveted using the Stinima method as an inexpensive variant.

When riveting the reed plate, the Stinima method uses the own material of the reed plate, which is half pushed out of the reed plate material from below by a pin and then riveted to the reed plate. The advantage of this process is the high production speed. The air gap around the sound tongue, which has to be kept somewhat larger with this method, however, leads to a loss of quality.

It can be used in foot pendulum presses or in large presses.
