Richard Bletschacher

Richard Max Josef Bletschacher (born October 23, 1936 in Füssen am Lech ) is a German dramaturge and author.

Bletschacher studied law , philosophy and theater and musicology in Munich , Heidelberg , Paris and Vienna . In the spring of 1959 he became assistant director and dramaturge at the Theater in der Josefstadt . In the fall of 1959 he moved to the Vienna State Opera , with which he remained for 37 years as director and chief dramaturge. During this time he also worked as a director a. a. in Milan , London , Tokyo , Palm Beach and Montreal . From 1982 to 1996 he was chief dramaturge at the Vienna State Opera.

Bletschacher wrote and translated opera texts, plays, poetry, short stories, children's books and musicological works. Today he works as a writer and painter.

He lives and works in Vienna and Drosendorf an der Thaya .
