The old poor house on Wedenkamp (today Königstraße) existed until 1890.
The church formed an ensemble with the adjoining monastery building until 1973.

The collegiate church from 1890 is on the corner of Friedensallee and Ost-West-Brücke in Elmshorn . It is a building in the historicist architectural style of the turn of the century, which originally belonged to the adjacent Präbendenstift .

Building

The church is divided into a slate-roofed nave and a narrow, somewhat retracted square tower with an octagonal pointed helmet, which is also slated. Brick was used as building material, but it is loosened up by white plaster elements.

The ship is divided into five fields by wall pillars. Each field shows an ogival window with simple decor and plastered areas at the top between the partial windows.

The tower opens to the west through an ogival entrance portal, above which the coat of arms of the Rantzauer count can be seen. Above that there are windows and sound openings, also closed off by pointed arches. The design of the church clock is particularly striking. Four dials with gold-plated numerals and hands on a black background point to the four cardinal points. The dials are surrounded by a white arched wreath. A toothed frieze and a frieze made of plastered rectangles close off the massive tower section at the top and lead over to the roof.

Interior

The interior of the church, renovated in 1976, is kept very simple, only enlivened by two wall hangings that were purchased in 1984. The pulpit is probably part of a former pulpit altar . The Beckerath organ was built in 1963. It has 12 registers , a manual and a pedal .

Bells

Originally the collegiate church only had one bell. Two additional bells were purchased in 1980, and since then the church has had a three-way ring with the tones f sharp a h. The bells were named Faith, Love, and Peace.

history

In 1663 , imperial count Christian Rantzau established a foundation, with the money of which a poor house was built on Wedenkamp (today Königstrasse), the so-called Präbendenstift. The dilapidated house was torn down towards the end of the 19th century.

In 1890 , a new large monastery building with the monastery church was built as a replacement on a newly acquired property on Friedensallee.

In 1973/1974 the abbey building - but not the abbey church - was demolished and replaced by a new building. The accommodations in the 80 year old house were no longer up to date. Since the funds of the count's foundation were not sufficient for a new building, the property and buildings were transferred to the parish association, but the institution kept the name “Counts Rantzausches Prebendenstift”.

The collegiate church was part of St. Nikolai until 1956, but then became independent.
