The German Leukemia & Lymphoma Aid Foundation is a foundation under civil law with legal capacity based in Bonn, which aims to improve the care of leukemia and lymphoma patients on a sustainable basis.

Founded by Deutsche Leukemia & Lymphom-Hilfe e. V. (DLH)

The foundation was established on October 4, 2010 by the self-help organization Deutsche Leukämie- & Lymphom-Hilfe e. V. (DLH) founded. The club saw in the establishment of a foundation the opportunity to significantly expand its sphere of influence and in addition to promoting self-help and research projects and distressed leukemia - and lymphoma - patients to support. In addition, the DLH association had previously come under fire along with several other patient organizations sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry. The association recognized that the pharmaceutical industry "has no unequivocal reputation in the self-help scene and beyond, due to a number of strong sales and advertising-oriented protagonists." Since other donors such as the health insurance companies put off bureaucratic hurdles and public funds flow very sparingly, the German Leukemia & Lymphoma Aid Foundation should also take on a role in the financial support of the DLH Federal Association and its groups in order to reduce the dependence on other donors.

The foundation, like the association, does not accept any money from the pharmaceutical industry. She is a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .

Finances

The foundation has basic assets of 105,750 euros. In 2018, the foundation had income totaling 634,931.48 euros, including 1,480.23 euros in interest income, 175,963.34 donations and 38,170 euros in fines .

In the first few years of its existence, the foundation was involved in projects for patients with leukemia and lymphoma. This includes financial support for self-help and individuals in need, as well as funding for a study to alleviate the symptoms of chemotherapy- induced polyneuropathy .

Thanks to the continuously growing donations, the foundation was able to expand its funding activities and support other research projects. Since the beginning of 2018, it has been offering financial support for blood cancer patients who would like to have fertility-preserving measures carried out before their therapy. These are not financed by the statutory health insurance.

In 2012, the foundation also took a first sub-foundation, the Hermann Josef Beckmann Foundation, into its trusteeship. The foundation is named after Hermann Josef Beckmann, who left part of his fortune to the DLH. The association was supposed to establish a foundation with the aim of researching multiple myeloma and supporting self-help groups for patients with this disease.

In 2014 the foundation set up a commercial business, the conference forge. This organizes events for third parties. 100% of the profit it generates goes towards the foundation's purposes.
