The Judaica Foundation ( Polish : Fundacja Judaica - Centrum Kultury Żydowskiej ) is a Jewish cultural center founded in 1991 in the Kazimierz district of Kraków .

history

The idea for the foundation was developed in the 1980s together with the President of the Jewish Community in Krakow and it was founded in 1991. The Center for Jewish Culture was established in 1993 in the former Bne Emuna prayer house on Plac Żydowski (“Jewish Square”) in Krakow . The house had been built in the 1880s and served religious purposes, but had deteriorated over time. In 1993 it was renovated with the help of various organizations. Since then, it has served as a location for seminars, lectures and exhibitions by the Center for Jewish Culture, such as the annual lecture in memory of Aleksander and Alicja Hetz (Annual Memorial Lecture) and the Settimana della Cultura Ebraica , which is organized in cooperation with the Italian cultural institute in Krakow .

aims

The aim is to preserve the Jewish heritage in Kraków's Kazimierz district, to create a forum for Polish-Jewish dialogue and to bring young people closer to Jewish history and culture . For this purpose, meetings and readings with Polish and Jewish scholars, artists and survivors of the Holocaust are organized.
