The Schifffahrtsstandort Deutschland Foundation , based in Hamburg, is a non-profit organization and supports nautical and technical training and qualification for seafarers .

history

The foundation was established by the Association of German Shipowners in Hamburg at the end of 2012 and recognized as a foundation under civil law with legal capacity. It started work in January 2013.

The Stiftung Schifffahrtsstandort Deutschland is entrusted with the task of collecting transfer fees from shipowners within the framework of the granting of flag-out permits. This money is to be paid out for nautical and technical training, qualification and advanced training of crew members. This will help seafarers with training . The prerequisite is that the seafarers are employed on seagoing vessels registered in German shipping registers .

Results

The transfer fees were between € 2,000 and € 16,169 per ship per year, depending on the size of the ship, and over € 120 million has been received since 2013. Over the past few years, around 1,300 seafarers have received financial support every year.
