The Silent Night Museum in Oberndorf near Salzburg is dedicated to the story of the Christmas carol Silent Night, Holy Night .

It is located next to the Silent Night Chapel , which stands on the site of the former parish church where the song was first performed on December 24, 1818. The main exhibition deals with the genesis and distribution history of the song and the living environment of its creators, Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber .

The museum also functions as the local history museum of the town of Oberndorf. Further exhibitions are dedicated to the history of Oberndorf and its neighboring town Laufen , in particular the salt shipping on the Salzach and the life of the philosopher, economist and recipient of the Alternative Nobel Prize Leopold Kohr , a well-known son of the town.
