Counting commission

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A counting commission is a group of people who count the result of a secret ballot for the election officer , who then determines the election result. This will simplify and speed up the counting of votes , while the assembly can do other tasks.

The counting commission determines the number of valid and invalid votes and abstentions , and of course also the number of votes attributable to the respective alternatives available for election. The chairman of the counting committee writes down the result and reports it to the electoral officer or the meeting presidium, which announces the election result.

There is no legal basis, but counting commissions are formed on the basis of customary law or by statutes in associations or all parties in the context of elections. This must therefore be distinguished from an election committee.

Usually several members of the respective organization are elected to the counting commission at the suggestion of the meeting presidium or other persons authorized to make proposals, whereby it is ensured that representatives of all sub-groups (the opposition ; any party wings or also regional or local associations / groups, genders etc.) are represented at the assembly. This is done in order to rule out manipulation of the voting results by the counting commission.
