Stonkers is a real-time strategy game and is considered one of the first games to introduce real-time elements into strategic games. It was written in 1983 for the ZX Spectrum and distributed by Imagine Software . The design came from DH Lawson and John Gibson, who also programmed it. Paul Lindale was responsible for the graphics.
Stonkers is operated with a keyboard or a joystick. In the game you control infantry, artillery, tanks and supply trucks. They lose energy while moving. To regenerate this, a supply unit must be brought to the same place. The supply units are renewed as soon as a ship arrives in port. Information about events is displayed in a treadmill on the screen.
The game contained many bugs and in early versions crashed after just a few minutes of play.
