Attractions

South of the Berghamn ferry port is the post and customs house, which was once the westernmost outpost of the Russian Empire . It is a testimony to the importance of the postal service to the community. The splendid building, designed by Carl Ludwig Engel in 1828, was intended to impress the travelers who took the post boats from Stockholm to Sweden . Today the building serves as a museum and houses the Post Rod Museum, which reminds of the dangerous 40 km rowing route to Sweden . After all, the post route claimed 200 lives.
