The Stornoway Gazette is a Scottish weekly newspaper mainly containing news from Stornoway and the Outer Hebrides .

history

The newspaper appears from 1917 until 2015 under the title Stornoway Gazette and West Coast Advertiser . Her texts are mainly in English with some contributions in Scottish Gaelic .

From 2003 to 2004, the Stornoway Gazette fought fiercely for nine months with the rival paper The Hebridean , which eventually ceased publication. As a result, the Gazette acquired the rights to this title. Also in 2004, the Edinburgh newspaper company Johnston Press became the owner of the Stornoway Gazette through the acquisition of Score Press , part of Scottish Radio Holdings .

In 2013 the newspaper was converted to a small format (“Compact”).

The Stornoway Gazette was recognized at the Scottish Highlands and Islands Media Awards 2014 in the categories "Newspaper of the Year" and "Best use of Digital Media" for 2013.
