Lake Storsjön is located in the middle of the historic Swedish province of Gästrikland , mostly in the municipality of Sandviken , but the eastern part is in the municipality of Gävle . It has an area of 70.7 km² and a maximum depth of 12.5 meters, but in most places the lake is only between two and five meters deep.
Storsjön is rich in pikeperch and has a total of 365 islands. It is fed by the rivers Borrsjöån , Fänjaån, Gavlehytteån, Jädraån and Vallbyån and drained by Gävleån . The town of Sandviken is located on the lake .
