The Strömsundsbron ( German : Strömsundsbrücke ) is a two-lane road bridge with two wide walkways and connects Strömsund with Näsviken in Jämtland , Sweden . Europastraße 45 crosses the bridge .

The cable-stayed bridge designed by the steel construction company Demag as part of an international competition on the basis of previous ideas by Franz Dischinger is considered the first large cable-stayed bridge in the world. It was built by Skanska (concrete foundations) and Demag (steel construction) between 1953 and 1955 and inaugurated in 1956.

It has a main span of 182 meters, a total length of 332 meters and a cluster-shaped arrangement of the stay cables. Its 14.30 m wide bridge deck consists of a flat, 3.25 m high steel box girder on which a concrete deck, interrupted by expansion joints, lies. The two 28 m high pylons made of riveted sheet steel form frames that taper slightly towards the top, on the tips of which the housings for the cable saddles are mounted. Seen from a distance, only two cables in each segment appear to be stretched diagonally to the bridge deck; in fact, four cables with spacers are arranged close together.
