The Malmö tram is a former tram network in the Swedish city of Malmö , of which two kilometers remain as a museum line.
history
The Malmö tram existed from 1887 to 1973. It was first opened as a horse-drawn tram and then electrified in 1906/1907. The last regular line was replaced by buses in 1973.
The Malmö tram runs on the standard gauge of 1435 millimeters. Electrification began in 1905. The tram operation was expanded further by 1937, and the first buses started running in 1929. In 1936 the first tram line was replaced by buses. With the transition to right-hand traffic on September 3, 1967, tram operation came to an end. Originally the tram was operated with two-axle motor and control cars. From 1949 the vehicles on the remaining lines 1, 3, 4 were replaced by newer four-axle open- plan cars .
There is still a museum line over a length of two kilometers, which begins and ends at Malmö Castle ( Malmöhus ). An expansion of the existing route to a ring line and a detour to Gustav-Adolfs-Torg is planned as Vision2007 .
Museum operation
In 2016 the museum line ran from May 28, 2016 to October 2, 2016 on Saturdays and Sundays. Start of operation was at 12:00. After that, every 24-minute drive was run until 16:24. The fare was 20 SEK or 3 EUR.
