The juvenile detention center Ichtershausen (JSA Ichtershausen) was a correctional facility in the district of Ichtershausen of the municipality of Wachsenburg in Thuringia . Until it was closed on July 7, 2014, it was responsible for the penal system of male prisoners aged 14 to under 16 years.

history

The penal institution was built from 1877 on the area of ​​a former Cistercian convent and the old castle , which was converted into a state prison. Until 1903, the prison housed male and female adults and juvenile prisoners. In the years from 1903 to 1953 the institution was exclusively responsible for male adult prisoners. During the time of National Socialism , the state prison, which was designed for 500 inmates, was overcrowded with 634 prisoners, mainly political prisoners. From 1953 the prison was used as a youth work yard. In 1992 the institution was closed and from 1993 to 1997 it was extensively renovated and redesigned using 8 million DM. Since then, until it was closed, it was a prison for 220 young people. The juvenile prison had a total of 220 prison places, 200 of which were in closed and 20 in open prison . There were 145 employees. On August 14, 2009, with the new building projects of Arnstadt juvenile detention center with affiliated youth detention center in Arnstadt- Rudisleben started, which was to replace the structurally outdated and in need of rehabilitation detention center in Ichtershausen together with branch office Weimar and to the continued use of detention places for 340 prisoners aged 14 to 24 Years ago. The construction cost of the new juvenile detention center was estimated at 73 million euros. The move from Ichtershausen to Arnstadt took place on July 7, 2014.
