Mírov Prison

Mírov Castle and Prison

The Mírov Prison is located in the Mírov Castle near the Mírov municipality ( Okres Šumperk , North Moravia). In the original Bishop's Castle, built in the 12th century, clerics were first detained, after 1855 it became a civil prison , after 1945 then to prison for mainly long-standing convicted until 1949 at the direction of then-Deputy Interior Minister Josef Pavel to the notorious penitentiary was rebuilt for political prisoners. The institution's capacity in 1952 was 1,800 prisoners. The detention center also had a number of labor camps.

The institute is still in operation today.
