Bad Schachen lido

Built in 1924, lido Bad Schachen or lido in Lindau district Schachen is a dependence of the spa hotels Bad Schachen part of the Bavarian Riviera spa and villa landscape on the shores of Lake Constance Bavarian mentioned.

Building history

As part of the expansion of the Hotel Bad Schachen, built by Hermann Billing and Wilhelm Vittali in 1909, in the 1920s, the construction of a lido was also considered. By acquiring land, the new lido west of the hotel was able to be built in place of a previously common wooden bathhouse in pile construction, which no longer corresponded to the zeitgeist. The well-known theater architect Max Littmann , who was also responsible for the renovations of the hotel, was commissioned by hotelier Robert Schielin in 1924, and the opening was celebrated in the same year.

In 1964 and 1965 a major renovation was carried out, which included the installation of a heated swimming pool in the sunbathing area, which was partially enclosed by the wings. In the course of this, the sunbathing lawn, which previously sloped down to the bank, was leveled and the difference in level was strengthened by a retaining wall. At the time it was built, the bank presented itself as a concrete ramp covered with sand. In 1991, this state of affairs was changed with the construction of a wall with stairs based on the architectural style of the bath.

building

The building, which is characterized by classicist elements, presents itself as a three-wing complex opening onto the lake . On the side of the main wing facing the lake, the portical entrance porch has a semicircular counterpart, a light pavilion bordered by columns. This is entered after passing through an anteroom and a revolving door. A white painted colonnade adjoins the central projectile at the side, but this is not continued on the side wings. The latter are closed off by open, rectangular pillar pavilions. Closely lined up, brown changing rooms are integrated in the inwardly opened side wings, and in some cases also in the main wing.

meaning

The Bad Schachen lido, conceived in the spirit of the life reform movement as an alternative to the separate-sex baths of the imperial era, aims to combine architecture and nature for maximum bathing pleasure. The Schachener Strandbad is the "highlight of the wooden bathing architecture on Lake Constance."
