Strangways is a large impact structure in northern Australia .
The heavily eroded structure is located in the Northern Territory and is named after the nearby Strangways River . The circular structure is approximately 10 miles in diameter and is located in the sedimentary rocks of the McArthur Basin. Because of the significant erosion, however, this is only a relic of the crater. According to various investigations, the original crater was between 24 and 40 km in diameter. According to radiometric dating , the impact occurred 646 ± 42 million years ago.
The impact structure is very remote and difficult to access.
