Street cleaner
The street cleaner (also street sweeper , street sweeper or street wiper ) takes care of the cleaning of public streets and paths as well as squares and parks. It also empties waste bins and properly dispose of the waste. In winter it clears snow and ice from traffic areas. All work can be carried out either by hand ( brooms and handcarts ) or with the help of machines ( sweeper and clearing vehicle ).
The job does not require any special training; instruction in the job is usually carried out directly by the employer. The street cleaner is employed either in the public service (usually a municipality) or in private cleaning or waste disposal companies.
Some street sweepers achieved regional fame, such as B. Harry von de Gass in Idstein . The street sweeper Beppo is one of the main characters in Michael Ende's novel Momo .
