The Strauben (only plural form; Alemannisch Strübli or Striebele) are sweet baked goods that are known and widespread in most of southern Germany ( southern Germany , Austria and South Tyrol ). It is prepared by pouring liquid dough - consisting of flour, butter, milk, eggs and sugar - through a funnel in a spiral shape into a pan with simmering oil and baking it out. After draining, the bunches are sprinkled with powdered sugar and often served with cranberry jam ; they are eaten warm. It is a specialty that is prepared for special occasions and (different from region to region) finds its place at many folk and meadow festivals. In the past, hearty grapes were also baked, e.g. For example, the cookbook Küchenmeisterei (Nuremberg, 1485) lists a recipe with salt and parsley.

There is similar, for example, as a funnel cake in the USA or as a tippaleipä in Finland.
