The linden yellow owl ( Tiliacea citrago ) or striped yellow owl is a butterfly from the family of the owl butterflies (Noctuidae). Like the pale yellow owl ( Xanthia icteritia ), the butterfly is a pronounced autumn butterfly and flies between August and October.
features
The front wings of Tiliacea citrago are yellow to brick red. Two darker cross bars clearly distinguish the species from the related species.
The gray-green caterpillar is marked with white lines and spots and, as the name suggests, can be found on winter linden ( Tilia cordata ) and other Tilia species from late April to June .
The eggs overwinter.

Occurrence
The animals are widespread in Central Europe, but nowhere more common. In recent years, the populations have declined so strongly in some areas that the moth is classified under RL3 (endangered) on the Red List , for example in Rhineland-Palatinate . The striped yellow owl prefers light forests with stands of linden trees, but also individual groups of linden trees in open terrain. In the far north there are no animals.
