Stress (card game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stress is a fast-paced card game for two people.

It is played with a double deck of cards ; that is, the values 2 to 10 as well as jack, queen, king and ace appear twice in the colors of diamonds, hearts, spades and clubs.

The course of the game

Basic game preparation

The aim of the game is to get rid of all cards. The players sit across from each other. Each player receives the 52 cards in a set. The cards are shuffled and each player places four cards visibly in front of them.

Place cards

He keeps the remaining 48 cards as a pile in one hand. With the other hand (you can only play with this hand), both players in the middle of the table hold up a card and turn it over at the same time (on command).

Discard cards

On these two cards, which are now revealed in the middle, both players are allowed to place one card after the other of their own four face-up cards as quickly as possible, whereby the value of the card must be one higher or lower. The colors don't matter. If both players can discard a card at the same time, the one who is faster and placed his card first wins. The slower player must take back his card.

Example: “9” and “7” can be placed on “8”, both “King” and “2” on “Ace”.

Supplement playing cards

After the player has placed one of his cards from the fours in the middle, he may replenish the cards in front of him to four from the pile in his hand. However, if the row fits, he can also first place another card in the middle and only then add the cards in front of him from the pile in his hand.

stress

If both stacks show the same value in the middle, the players must shout “stress” loudly. The player who forgets this or is slower receives both stacks in the middle of the table as a penalty, which he has to shuffle with his cards in hand.

Continue laying cards

If no more moves are possible, or a player does not want to take a possible move, both players take the top card of their hand and hold it face down over a pile in the middle of the table. At the same time they turn their cards over and the game begins again. If a player has already played all of his cards from his hand and it is necessary to place more cards, he takes a card face down from the opponent's hand and uses it for the game.

End and evaluation

The game ends when a player has played all of their cards. If desired, the loser's cards can be counted and written down as points.

variants

Simple set of cards

The faster variant, which is widespread in Switzerland, is played with a Jass card set (36 cards, from 6 to ace).

Target:

It is played on 5 wins.

Stress:

Since this variant is very quick and the one who lays the decisive card for the stress has a great advantage, you can stop stress. This is achieved by pointing to the potential stress card of the other person and saying: "If you put this card, it is stress". If the player now places this card, the game continues without penalty. If a stress is mentioned incorrectly, this has no consequences for the caller.

Discarding the cards:

It is also played with 4 open cards, which are added during the game. It is forbidden to put cards on the pile with two hands at the same time. It is also not allowed to put more than one card at a time in the middle.

The End:

The player who placed the last card calls out: "Win!". This ends the game and is the winner of this round. Furthermore, from this point in time it is no longer possible to mention stress.

Variant for skat players:

If only a simple set of cards is available, this can also be used. However, it is then advisable to only play with one Skat sheet (32 cards, from “7” to “Ace”) and to reveal only three cards instead of four.

joker

Two or more jokers are added to the game. These can take any value, i. That is, every time a joker is played, "stress" can be called out.

Beat

So that it is clear who was the first to shout "Stress", the flat of the hand must be tapped in the middle of the table (over the two stacks) at the same time. The one whose hand taps the opponent's hand has been slower and has lost the stress. He must now pick up the cards in the pile in his hand.

Punish

If a player accidentally calls out “stress”, he must also pick up the stacks as a penalty.

stack

If a player has several cards with the same value "ready to play", he may discard them at the same time.

Changed map sheet

This variant is played with the same rules, but is played with a double headed hand (9 10 Jack Queen King Ace, all cards in all suits double). By changing the map sheet, the "stress factor" is increased.
