history

The company was founded in Leipzig in 1872 by master plumber Friedrich Stoll jun., Who a short time later also opened a small print shop there. As a member of the Wilhelmy family, the master craftsman was given the task of managing the newly founded specialist magazine “DZB” (German magazine for sheet metal workers). This was followed by admission to the German book trade association in Leipzig.

In 1893, the management of the publishing house was transferred to the master plumber E. Otto Wilhelmy, whom his wife Helene and son-in-law Eugen Strobel stood by from the start. After the death of E. Otto Wilhelmy in 1897 Eugen Strobel and Helene Wilhelmy took over the company. Eugen Strobel died in 1929. After his death, his sons Curt Strobel and Herbert Strobel continued the publishing business together with cousin Georg Wilhelmy. The publishing location Leipzig remained until 1945.

In 1943, the “Illustrierte Zeitung für Blechindustrie und Installation” (Illustrated newspaper for sheet metal industry and installation) in Berlin with the DIKZ (“Deutsche Installateur und Klempner Zeitung”) acquired by the Strobel brothers in 1939 and the “Deutsche Klempner-Zeitung” became the “United Installer and Plumber” -Zeitung "merged. Curt Strobel died in 1946. His brother, Herbert Strobel, and his family were transferred to Arnsberg due to the war. As a major in the army, he fell victim to the war in March 1945. His wife, Alice Strobel, received as a war widow in 1948 under license no. 189 the British military government approved the publication of the “Nordwestdeutsche Installateur- und Klempner-Zeitung” (IKZ). The first post-war IKZ appeared in May 1948.

License to publish the "Northwest German Installer and Plumber Newspaper"

Also in 1948 the "IKZ" became the official organ of all state guild associations of the British zone of occupation as well as the association of Hesse (American zone) and Rhineland-Palatinate (French zone). In 1951, the central association of plumbers, plumbers, coppersmiths and central heating construction, based in Bonn, declared "IKZ" (today IKZ-HAUSTECHNIK) to be its association body. For political reasons it was not possible to resume publishing in Leipzig. In the post-war years, the publishing house was rebuilt under the direction of Alice Strobel and there were other specialist journals such as the up-and-coming journal in the field of sanitary, heating and air conditioning, the "ikz apprentice and journeyman" (today IKZ-PRAXIS), the specialist journal FLÜSSIGGAS, the title KÜCHENPLANER, the association title K&L Magazin (tiled stove and air heating construction) and the consumer magazine MEIN NEUES BAD (today integrated in the magazine inwohnen). Even before Alice Strobel's death in 1987, responsibility lay in the hands of son Ekkehard Strobel, who is still active as a senior partner at STROBEL VERLAG today. His son, Christopher Strobel, has been at his side since 1988, and has been managing partner of STROBEL VERLAG since 2004.
