In criminology , structural offenses refer to offenses that are mostly in the area of violence or red light milieus , but also in business and politics.

Particularly characteristic is the disclosure of the hierarchies and the determination of the masterminds . So not only the investigation of specific crimes is pursued, but also the structures of the organization behind them. Structural offenses therefore belong to organized crime in the broadest sense .

The clarification of structural crimes is often accompanied by the use of informants or whistleblowers and undercover investigators .
