The Stubenberg meteorite fell on March 6, 2016 near Stubenberg and was found on March 12, 2016 based on calculations of the fall area.

The original meteoroid disintegrated into several fragments upon entering the earth's atmosphere, which fell over an area several square kilometers. So far, a large fragment and many smaller fragments and splinters with a total mass of around 1.5 kilograms have been recovered. Stubenberg was classified as a common chondrite (type LL6), a group within the stone meteorites . Just like the Neuschwanstein meteorite , it could be found using simultaneous photographic recordings.

In the future, the meteorite should be on display in the Ries Crater Museum in Nördlingen.
